Patients begin the Bariatric program at West Georgia Health by attending an informational meeting that provides a comprehensive educational session addressing the complete bariatric weight loss process. Dr. Turton conducts the majority of these seminars and discusses the surgical procedures in detail. A virtual seminar is available on our website for those who prefer to complete this step in their own homes. After participating in a seminar, either in person or on the internet, patients can schedule an appointment with Dr. Turton at one of his convenient offices.
For those traveling from outside the immediate area, our office can provide “concierge” service to coordinate your visits with Dr. Turton, the dietitian, psychological evaluation, as well as provide options for local lodging. Our goal is to make efficient use of your time and accomplish as much as possible with as little inconvenience as possible.
Work up generally includes:
- Nutrition instruction
- Psychological evaluation
- Anesthesiologist assessment
- Routine blood work
Visits to specialists are scheduled as indicated.
After completion of the required pre-op admission workup, the patient will meet with surgeon 10 days to 2 weeks prior to surgery to review pre-op work up, check understanding and answer any further questions.
